Energy Performance of Buildings
Collectively accounting for more than 40% of Europe's energy use, new and old building stock presents significant potential for cost effective energy saving and reduction of CO2 emissions. The EPBD (Energy Performance of Buildings Directive) now being implemented by all EU member states sets out minimum requirements on the energy performance of new and existing buildings
UK Building Regulations Part L
Addressing this directive in the UK are Building Regulations Part L2 (fuel and energy conservation) for non-domestic new buildings (L2A) and refurbishment of buildings over 1000m² useful floor area(L2B)
Ventilation system - air quality
Whilst the reduction of air flow might reduce the energy consumed by ventilation fans and air handling units, reduced air change may have a detrimental effect on the internal environment and the target energy performance of a unit must take this in to account. This is addressed in the EPBD and UK building regulation Part F on air quality.
